If you haven’t experienced a delivery from Meals on Wheels, it can be difficult to imagine the quality and taste that’s embedded in every meal. From the garden to the kitchen and from the delivery car to your front door, Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lehigh Valley (MOWGLV) ensures every meal served meets each client’s needs. Producing about 800 meals a day, the mighty kitchen staff at MOWGLV is dedicated to packing every dish with nutrients, meeting essential dietary standards, and providing the comforting feeling of a home-cooked meal.
Before meals are delivered to neighbors in need, significant thought goes into sourcing, preparing, and designing the food, all before packaging. When serving home-bound elders or those with disabilities, it’s essential to our mission to make the experience just as satisfying as the meal. Elements like colors and style play an integral role in the meal; when clients open their package, our kitchen staff wants them to feel excited about the vibrant, delicious food they’re about to eat.
Enjoying one of our meals also means ensuring our clients are meeting their dietary goals. Whether it’s diabetic-friendly or heart-healthy ingredients, our meals are designed to provide clients with the essential nutrients they need to thrive. We also consider clients’ food preferences and can replace portions of their meals with options more suited to their palate.
While our kitchen staff loves to create innovative meals, some menu staples have become our clients’ favorites. Whether it’s mac and cheese or delicious chicken marsala, the kitchen staff works hard to prepare almost 800 hot meals every day. Starting at 4 am, our team prepares, cooks, and tastes the meals to ensure they meet our standards. Once completed, the team packages and delivers the meals to one of our nine pickup sites, where volunteers can gather meals for their delivery routes and deliver to neighbors in their community.
Meals on Wheels is more than a home-delivered meal to our clients. A taste of our meatloaf dinner can remind clients of their mother’s sacred recipe, and their traditional Pennsylvania Dutch NYE meal can be a nostalgic memory of their favorite traditions.
