Positivity, love, and a lot of laughter. These three words are how many friends and family use to describe Meals on Wheels client, Sandra.
Sandra is a life-long resident of Easton and she has lived a rich, full life of dedication to our community. She served two consecutive terms as a member of the Advisory Board of the Pennsylvania Council on Aging. She served as President of the PTA at both Easton and Palmer Area High Schools. She became Chairperson of the Christian Women’s Council of Bethlehem and participated in a Bible study group at her church. One of her proudest achievements is her work with Meals on Wheels. Sandra was one of the first volunteers in the Valley to deliver meals to people in need — working with others to start a meal program out of Easton Hospital.
Today, at the age of 87, Sandra never thought that she would be the one to need Meals on Wheels! She recently had an atrial valve replacement and can no longer cook for herself so she needed someone to help with meals.
Her physician has credited her successful recovery to the healthy meals she has been receiving through Meals on Wheels. Sandra is proud to receive the service and truly enjoys it. “I appreciate it so much! I get the proper nutrition to help me feel well”!
It is not just the meals that make Sandra feel well, but also the daily visit from the volunteers.
“I just love my girls (volunteers)!” she gushed. “The visit every day makes me happy”.
Today she continues to be involved in church activities as she is able and enjoys spending any time she can get with her family, including her grandchildren and great grandchildren
Sandra is grateful to have come full circle with Meals on Wheels and can see more than ever the impact of the program for seniors. She has been able to stay in the home she has owned for the past 50 years with Meals on Wheels support. She loves receiving meals from Meals on Wheels and getting to visit with the volunteers who carry on her legacy.
