This year Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lehigh Valley has been faced with many new challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, in the face of these new challenges, we have been able to see just how strong our community really is.
Each year, MOWGLV participates in the annual Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community along with other Lehigh Valley non-profits organizations. Due to strict social distancing guidelines, this year’s Walk was held virtually by all participants. Any apprehensions that we might have had about holding a virtual walk quickly disappeared as we were pleasantly surprised by the outpour of community support we received which helped to make our first ever, virtual walk for Team Meals on Wheels GLV such a success.

One sponsor (and avid power walker), who has been a MOWGLV volunteer over the past seven years, is Hammi Kapoor. Over the past several years, Hammi has put together his own team of walkers, Team Kapoor, in support of MOWGLV for the Highmark Walk. With each passing year, Team Kapoor has grown and the number of people supporting Hammi’s team has significantly increased. Hammi states, “My group of family and friends are very dedicated supporters and donors. They are appreciative of the great work MOWGLV is doing for our community”. Hammi also likes to keep his family and friends educated on the cause that both he and they are supporting, “I do make it a point to keep them informed of various activities and services available through MOWGLV. And inform them on how MOWGLV is constantly striving to do more”.
When asked what drew Hammi to MOWGLV, his heart poured out, “I love the cause and all that MOWGLV is doing for the community, especially the seniors. I feel really good to do my little part”.
